October 9, 2014

It's been a week of lots of finishes. I'm a deadline motivated type of gal.

Two quilts done and relinquished to the Quilt Bingo committee.

Amalia quilted and bound this one for me. I just had a label to slap on the back.

I quilted this one myself, and made some fun binding out of feedsack that I just love.

I call it "Catching Fire", and added a Mockingjay symbol. (from the Hunger Games trilogy if you are not familiar.)

I finished up a small series I started in a class several years ago. They started with a panel of nursery rhymes. They are fused collage and a bit of paint.

I embellished each one with some buttons and a hanging ribbon.

I finished up a hanging for my door. It only needed binding and a few embellishments.

And, lastly, I whipped up a wall hanging from an old Nancy Crow panel. It will be a bonus prize at Quilt Bingo.

October 2, 2014

I've finished block B2, Rachel's Ribbons, Birds and Berries. It was a relatively quick, easy block. I still need to add embroidery in several places.

I've started on block B4 Rebecca's Ribbon Birds of Peace.

I have been piecing a lot this week. It's nice to do something fairly mindless every now and again. I love how this one is coming together. I love the way it looks curvy but is constructed with all straight lines. This is my first time using Tri Recs tools.

I ended up with 59 blocks so I made one more for an even sixty. I think I'll set them as 6 x 10, and do long thin borders with my extra four patches on each side.

September 21, 2014

I've almost finished the quilt top for a donation to our annual Quilt Bingo.  A friend in the guild will quilt it for me on her longarm.

I'm making good progress on my hand applique project, Baltimore Garden.

September 14, 2014

It's been almost a month since I blogged. I have to get back into the rhythm, I've been sick and travelling and sick and travelling.....

Whilst travelling I finished this block from Baltimore Garden.

I've started my next block, with some female cardinals! It was a challenge finding the right fabric in my stash.

I'm still doing this...

We have officially reached "I could never see another tomato and it would be too soon" season.

I've been working on another hand applique project as well, with a deadline in February 2015.

pinning the design in place, and basting

my trusty companions, and hand basting supplies

all the straight lines are appliqued on

these circles will be embellished, then appliqued on to the base

August 10, 2014

My bee's current swap is just finishing up. This weekend I squared up everything I received, and made all the setting pieces (2 sets of 112 squares) and squared them all up. Whew!

I started putting it up on the wall, and I'm loving it!

August 4, 2014

I did a block exchange with my bee last year of beautiful batik shoofly blocks.  I've been working to finish this "UFO."

This was the first randomly scrappy iteration, November 2013. The original pattern called for nine patches as the alternate blocks but I decided to do snowballs instead.  At a retreat almost a year ago, I made most of the snowball blocks I would need.

Last month when I put it back up on the design wall randomly, I decided it needed a little more designing. I went for a grouping of strong colors with a smooth transition in between.

I had so many blocks, I split the quilt onto two design walls!

I laid out the lower part (sideways) onto my temporary hallway design wall (which may become permanent). I put up the snowballs first, concentrating on color gradation, then added the shoofly blocks.

A not great  photo of the pieced top. I'm debating a border, just to make it comfortably fit on the bed.
