Ah, it's football widow time again. I spent the evening hiding in my room, playing with my art journals.

Quilted some small art pieces I started in a class a year ago.
I'm not in love with these, but they are fun to play around with.
Finished a dresden sunflower candle mat.

I picked up my Maryland state fair entries today and won some nice awards.
This won first place in hand applique/machine quilted, and two special awards: Best hand applique awarded by the Baltimore Applique Society (second year in a row I won that one, lol), and best overall embellishment from all 195 quilts entered.
Thing Two's robot quilt won Judges Choice. He got tons of compliments on his drawings.

At our beach vacation, I had time to sit and sketch and play in my art journals. This is the only page that basically started from scratch. I love watching seagulls so I decided to sketch some. And the lifeguard's blue umbrella really caught my eye.
I added a little to a lot of pages.
Watercolor over gel glue resist; added some pencil drawing around the stickers to give dimension.
Added a little background color to this one.
Added swirly pattern on the hand on the right, with prismacolor pencil.
I must have fall leaves on the brain. Tissue paper glued down and colored over with prismacolor pencils.
Added water to the trunk shape.
Added a watercolor wash to the flames at the top.
These are all in two books that I made a while back from old watercolor studies I made in college.

Cheryl Lynch came to speak at our guild last night. I love her beautiful, creative quilts, and she is such a nice person. The theme of her talk was seeing things differently, and finding inspiration in everyday things. Tonight at dinner, I saw this upholstered fabric at the restaurant where we ate dinner. Wouldn't it make a great quilt pattern?
